On Tuesday, October 27th, Tree Reading returns for another energizing, insightful and communal online poetry event, including a workshop by Stephen Brockwell (7-8pm EST) an open mic and featured readings by nationally acclaimed poets Lauren Turner (Montreal) and Jillian Christmas (Vancouver).
Every aspect of the event is totally free of charge and will take place online, via Zoom. In order to sign up for the workshop, the open mic, and experience the featured readings, we will ask you to fill out a Google Form and then e-mail you a Zoom link a few hours before the event begins.
The event will be hosted by poet and spoken word artist Brandon Wint.

Lauren Turner is a disabled poet and author of the full-length collection, The Only Card in a Deck of Knives (Wolsak & Wynn, 2020) and the chapbook, We’re Not Going to Do Better Next Time (knife | fork | book, 2018). Her work has appeared in Grain, Arc Magazine, PRISM, Poetry is Dead, Cosmonauts Avenue, The Puritan, canthius and elsewhere. She won the 2018 Short Grain Contest and was a finalist for the 2017 3Macs carte blanche Prize. She lives in Tiohtiá:ke/Montréal on unceded Kanien’kehá:ka land.
Jillian Christmas is a queer, black writer living on the unceded territories of the Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh and Musqueam people. An enthusiastic organizer and advocate in the Canadian arts community, her focus has been to increase anti-oppression initiatives in spoken word. She has executed programs in partnership with Toronto Poetry Project, The Chan Centre, Vancouver Opera, and more. Jillian has performed and facilitated spoken word workshops for youth and adults across the country and beyond. She is the author of The Gospel of Breaking (2020 with Arsenal Pulp Press).
