For as long as she can remember, Asifa Sheikh has loved writing. These days, she continues to dabble in poetry and short fiction. Her love for writing has led Asifa to Firefly Creative Writing where she is a writing coach who enjoys being in community with other writers and supporting their voices. Gary Barwin is a writer, composer, multidisciplinary artist and prolific collaborator. He is the author of 30 books including Nothing the Same, Everything Haunted: The Ballad of Motl the Cowboy which won the Canadian Jewish Literary Award, was shortlisted for the Vine Award, and was chosen for Hamilton Reads 2023. His national bestselling novel Yiddish for Pirates won the Leacock Medal for Humour and the Canadian Jewish Literary Award, was a finalist for the Governor General’s Award for Fiction and the Scotiabank Giller Prize and was long listed for Canada Reads. His 2022 poetry collection, The Most Charming Creatures won the Canadian Jewish Literary Award. His latest book is Imagining Imagining: Essays on Language, Identity and Infinity. Barwin was born in Northern Ireland, the son of South African parents of Ashkenazi Jewish Lithuanian descent. He lives in Hamilton, Ontario. garybarwin.com
