"This collection shows Capilongo to be a celebratory poet who uses two basic poetic styles, free verse and prose/poetry, to sing about his world. There is a risk to writing this way, with the use of irony, for example, often seen as a mark of a sophisticated poet. Nevertheless, he creates a kind of documentary version of reality in his poems and he successfully avoids slipping into excessive sentimentality or self-indulgence. His poems, instead, realistically combine the tough and the tender."
