Successful, jarring collage mixes prose, lists, free verse
review of Dismantled Secrets by Maxianne Berger

Berger has been writing haiku, tanka, light verse and formal parodies for many years. Her first published poem was in heroic couplets, and appeared in the British magazine International Popular Bridge Monthly in 1988.
What's impressive in Berger's new book is the tonal range. In the minimalist Palliative Care, "she spends her days counting/ the minutes till her next pill". Or February: "Snow falls/ on fallen snow// filling/ the footprints// left/ by your leaving."
