Wolsak and Wynn Wolsak and Wynn

Submissions

Wolsak and Wynn is pleased to offer the following guidelines to assist you in preparing your submission.

General Submissions Guidelines:

  • We do not consider unsolicited manuscripts, but we strongly encourage authors to send a letter of enquiry with a small sample of the work. If we are interested, we will ask to see more, otherwise the sample is returned, provided that a self-addressed envelope with sufficient postage accompanies the manuscript.
  • A self-addressed envelope with sufficient postage (SASE) or International Reply Coupons (IRCs) is essential for a response and the return of your material. If you would like confirmation of the receipt of your work, please include a self-addressed, stamped postcard for us to return to you.
  • We do not consider electronically transmitted material.
  • Additional genre specific guidelines follow below, we hope they are helpful in preparing your enquiry.
Poetry Guidelines:

For over 25 years Wolsak and Wynn has been proud to publish some of Canada's best poetry and to contribute to the literary culture in our country.
  • We read poetry from January 1st to March 31st each year, we do not read at other times. As we receive a high volume of submissions during this time, we will reply as soon as we can.
  • Along with your letter of enquiry, please include a sample of 15-20 poems, single spaced on one-sided, white bond paper, with no more than one poem per page.
  • We prefer no style over another, as long as the poems are intelligent and well-written, have energy, and hold the reader's interest.
  • Wolsak and Wynn publishes poetry in small editions of 500 to 700, and reprints as necessary. Our poetry books vary in length from 64 to 96 pages.
  • Please clearly indicate on the outer envelope: Poetry Submission.

Non-Fiction Guidelines:

Since 2006 Wolsak and Wynn has been pleased to add select literary non-fiction titles to our publication list.
  • As we publish few non-fiction titles each year, we are interested in works of high literary merit, and strong, topical content.
  • Along with your letter of enquiry, please include a sample chapter and proposed table of contents, double spaced on one-sided, white bond paper. A list of your publication credits and publishing experience is helpful in providing context to your work.
  • Please clearly mark on the outer envelope: Non-Fiction Submission.
